Alsager Monster Parade and Fun Day

August 1st 98

This event was organised by the Alsager 2001 steering group. The parade started in Milton Park and passed through the town centre.

A drama was performed in Milton Park by the 'Alstagers' group. It tells the truly unbelievable story of a visit by King Arthur to Alsager when he was attacked by 'swamp monsters' from the Mere.
Other attractions were:
  • Juggling and balloon modelling
  • Gem panning with Michael Pace
  • Skateboard demo by Alsager Youth group
  • Line dancing
  • Make, make, badges, rain sticks, banners, parachutes
  • Face painting
  • Stalls: bric-a-brac,cakes,crafts,ice-cream
  • Live music at The Lodge and The Mere
Alsager 2001 is a voluntary organisation set up as a result of the Alsager Partnership meetings by a number of community artists who live in the local area and have experience in festival arts. We feel that as everyone hurtles toward Millenium celebrations Alsager may be missing out on the very real opportunities to develop its community identity and to access national funding for community activities.

This could be improved by training as many people as possible in the practical applications to national and regional bodies. We hope that this will lead to Alsager taking its place in major community events and celebrations.

We propose to act as a steering group, as a means of finding members of the community who will be active in the long term.

There are many organisations working separately in Alsager. We aim to bring them together to enhance Alsager's Community spirit in a new kind of festival.
